Liverpool have confirmed the departure of forward Mohammed Salah at the end of the season, following an official announcement by the Egyptian international himself on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old forward has an agreement with the Merseyside Reds to leave the club at the end of the current Premier League campaign as a free agent, after a remarkable nine-year stay at Anfield.

Salah, who signed a 2-year contract with the current Premier League holders in April last year, will now terminate his contract with Liverpool on mutual consent, after a difficult season under manager Arne Slot.

The Egyptian, who will bow out as one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players, will have his Anfield farewell against Brentford on May 24 on the final day of the Premier League season.

Liverpool’s statement read: “Mohamed Salah is to bring the curtain down on his illustrious career with Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025-26 season.

“The forward has reached an agreement with the Reds that will see him close a remarkable nine-year chapter at Anfield.

“Salah expressed his wish to make this announcement to the supporters at the earliest possible opportunity to provide transparency about his future due to his respect and gratitude for them.”

Since moving to Anfield from Serie A side AS Roma in the summer of 2017, Salah has proved to be one of the greatest players to grace the English top-flight league, while establishing himself as one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history.

His 255 goals in 435 appearances to date have the Egyptian sitting third on the Reds’ all-time leading goalscorers chart, winning the Premier League Golden Boot on four occasions in addition to a host of personal accolades.

The “Egyptian god” still has a few games under his belt to call time off his illustrious career with Liverpool before a final farewell.

The “You Never Walk Alone” army prepares to square off against the Champions League holders, Paris Saint-Germain, in the quarter-finals and face Manchester City in the FA Cup last eight, in which Salah is poised to play a significant role.

Arne Slot’s side have struggled for consistency this season – a shadow of their old self from last season when they won the league convincingly. However, a fifth position would currently be enough with England in line for a fifth qualifying spot, with seven games to go.

Salah has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia in the past, but both the player and his camp are now tight-lipped on his next step, with his agent Ramy Abbas Issa insisting nothing has been agreed with another club.

“We do not know where Mohamed will play next season,” he said on social media. “This also means that no one else knows.”
