Real Madrid have officially confirmed the signing of the Portuguese attacker Bernardo Silva on a free transfer on Wednesday, following his departure from Manchester City at the end of the Premier League season.

Silva, whose contract at the Etihad Stadium expires this summer, ends a nine-year successful tenure with the Blues, winning several trophies, including the Champions League.

The 31-year-old, who confirmed his exit from City, joined from Monaco in 2017, and played a key role in helping the Cityzens to win 20 trophies in the process.

The Portuguese international midfielder recorded a staggering 76 goals and 75 assists from 460 games across all competitions.

Silva has now signed a two-year contract with the La Liga giants until June 2028, joining Portuguese head coach Jose Mourinho, who returns after 13 years since his first stint at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Club confirmed on their website on Wednesday: “Real Madrid C. F. and Bernardo Silva have reached an agreement for him to become a Real Madrid player for the next two seasons, until June 30, 2028.”

Silva had a remarkable last season at City in the 2025/26 season in the Premier League, featuring in all 38 games, captaining his side to FA Cup and Carabao Cup glory.

Before agreeing to a move to the Spanish Capital, Siva was not short of suitors after announcing his exit from City in April.

Madrid rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were reportedly keen admirers of the attacking midfielder, with Serie A giants Juventus also waiting in the wings to steal a march.

Silva could be joined at the Bernabéu this summer by Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries, with their transfers yet to receive official confirmation.

During Silva’s trophy-laden nine years at City, he won six Premier League trophies, three FA Cups, five League Cups, three FA Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Super Cup, and one Club World Cup.

Silva is expected to be a key figure for Portugal at the 2026 World Cup, with Roberto Martinez’s side opening their campaign against African giants DR Congo national football team on Wednesday as they chase a first-ever World Cup crown.
