Marc Cucurella for Chelsea

Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Premier League giants Chelsea to sign left-back Marc Cucurella, in a deal worth €60 million.

According to journalist David Ornstein, the 27-year-old is expected to join Los Blancos from the Blues for €60 million, with the La Liga side paying €55 million upfront and €5 million in add-ons.

Cucurella has been the subject of growing speculation this summer, with Atlético Madrid reportedly in talks with Chelsea over a potential move, while his former academy club, Barcelona are also understood to be monitoring the situation.

The Spanish international is expected to leave Chelsea four years after signing from Brighton in a £60m move, and has since made 163 appearances across all competitions for the Blues, scoring nine goals and assisting 13.

Madrid has moved ahead of their La Liga rivals to secure the signature of the Club World Cup and the Europa League winner, with a deal being done quickly over the past 24 hours.

Reports linking him with a move to the Bernabéu will come as a surprise, particularly in light of his recent comments about his future after discussions with Chelsea’s new manager, Xabi Alonso, whom he said had given him renewed confidence in the project.

“Yes. I’ve spoken with him, and he inspired a lot of confidence in me.

“I’ve also spoken with Grimaldo and Borja, who have worked with him, and they spoke very highly of him. The project seems very interesting”
