Barcelona complete signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United

Barcelona on Wednesday revealed the club’s interest in Anthony Gordon, before the newly crowned La Liga champions reportedly intensified their pursuit on Thursday with a formal offer worth £69.3 million including add-ons, as discussions advanced towards a potential medical.
Barcelona fought off rivals Bayern Munich to reach an agreement with Newcastle for the 25-year-old winger, and the medical is expected to be finalised late into Friday, with an official announcement scheduled over the weekend..
Other reports from Germany indicated that another interested party, Bayern Munich were unwilling to go ahead with the deal due to the financial commitment involved with the deal.

The arrival of Anthony Gordon in Spain for his medical has caught many by surprise, particularly after months of speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford and a potential €30 million move to Barcelona.
The England international is due to join England’s pre-World Cup training camp in Florida after putting pen to paper on a five-year deal for the Catalan club, becoming the first summer signing in this transfer window.
The deal is reportedly structured for Barca to pay Newcastle a total fee of £70 million in instalments over the duration of Gordon’s contract.
The deal will also see Newcastle receive a percentage of any future sale. Similar to that of Everton, which will see them earn 15 per cent of the fee.
The transfer has now been confirmed through official statements released by both Barcelona and Newcastle on X account, although the finer details of the agreement are yet to be publicly disclosed.

The England international was unveiled to the Barcelona supporters on Friday, having arrived at the club’s headquarters hours earlier.
Anthony Gordon’s signing from St. James’ Park will make him the second-most expensive sale in Newcastle’s history, following the £125 million they received for Alexander Isak last summer.

Gordon, who finished this season as Newcastle’s top goalscorer with 17 goals in all competitions, including 10 in the Champions League campaign, signed a long-term contract extension with the Magpies in October 2024 and has four years remaining on his current deal.
Speaking after signing his contract, Anthony Gordon thanked Newcastle for how positively the club has transformed him into a better person both on and off the pitch.
He said: “I owe this club a lot because, when I arrived, I was quite lost both in life and in football.
“The club has given me a sense of belonging and a sense of identity. It’s allowed me to do what I always thought I could do. It’s put me on the biggest stage and allowed me to perform for the shirt.
“Since coming to the club, I feel I’ve improved a lot on the pitch but this club has played a big part in the person I’ve become over the last three-and-a-half years.
“It was really important for me to leave this place in a good way because I’ve loved every single minute of being a part of Newcastle United. This is an incredible club and one that I’ll never forget. I’ll be a fan for the rest of my life.”
He spoke warmly, expressing his admiration for Barcelona during his childhood, and even delivered part of his speech in fluent Spanish to the media, to everyone’s surprise. Gordon said it was with the Magpies’ physiotherapist that he learned to speak the language.
During his press conference, he said: “I wanted to speak Spanish because as a kid I believed I would play for Barca. There was a physio in Newcastle, and we spoke every day. I told him one day I would play for Barca and wanted to learn Spanish.
