Van Dijk to sign new deal at Liverpool

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has hinted at signing a new contract after grabbing a late winner in their 2-1 win against West Ham United on Sunday.

Van Dijk hinted at signing a new Liverpool contract after starring in the club’s win over West Ham, and teasing Liverpool fans about joining Mohamed Salah in signing a new contract.

The 33-year-old scored a last-minute winning goal to help the Reds secure crucial three points on Sunday as they beat West Ham 2-1 at Anfield.

After playing an important role in his side’s hard-fought victory, Van Dijk hinted that he is close to joining Mohamed Salah in signing a new Liverpool deal.

The Dutch defender is in the final months of his existing deal but is expected to put pen to paper on a new two-year contract that will extend his stay at Anfield until 2027.

Speaking to reporters, Van Dijk said: “Everybody knows I love this club… let’s see what next week looks like!”

Mohammed Salah penned a new deal with the Reds few days ago after months of speculation over his future.

Since then, the Egyptian has broken the 38-game record for the most goal involvements in a Premier League season – Salah has done that with 45 goal involvements following his assist for Luiz Diaz’s opener in their win over the Hammers.

The Egyptian is now two off the record (47) set by Andy Cole (1993-94) and Alan Shearer (1994-95) – both of which came in 42-match seasons.

Van Dijk’s statement sort of eases speculations surrounding a possible exit with deputy captain Trent Alexander-Arnold already slated to leave for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
