Jose Mourinho pretends to fall asleep during long-winded question from journalist

Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho put on a theatrical display during Thursday’s post-match press conference, pretending to fall asleep and even making snoring sounds as a Turkish journalist asked him a lengthy question.

Mourinho was speaking to the media after his team’s 3-1 home defeat to Rangers in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie.

The journalist’s question, which lasted nearly a minute, focused on the tactical changes Mourinho made during the game in Istanbul.

However, before the Fenerbahce press officer could translate it, the Portuguese manager cut in, visibly exasperated.

“Oh, this is too much for my head. I’m tired, man,” Mourinho said.

“Ninety minutes, not to listen to all this—I’m too tired for that. Yeah, yeah… we change players every game.”

Mourinho’s antics once again highlighted his trademark charisma and ability to steal the spotlight, even in defeat.

“Calm Down Because It’s Not Over”

Having just returned from a two-match ban for his comments about Turkish referees following a goalless draw at Galatasaray last week Monday, Mourinho then continued with the news conference.

“The only thing I tell them [Rangers] is don’t celebrate too much because there is a second match to play,” he said.

“That’s my only advice. Then if in the second game they celebrate, I will congratulate them. For now, calm down because it’s not over.

“The only positive thing for me is that there are 90 minutes left to play.”

Fenerbahce have a full week to prepare for their upcoming return leg against Rangers.

With no Super Lig fixture scheduled for this weekend, Mourinho will aim to implement a strategy that can overturn the two-goal deficit before heading to Glasgow next Thursday.
