Real Madrid strike Jose Mourinho agreement

Jose Mourinho is expected to sign a two-year deal with Real Madrid

Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with José Mourinho over his return as head coach, with a two-year contract now being finalised.

Reliable sources indicate that a verbal agreement has been reached between the La Liga giants and the “Special One”, with only the final stage of the deal yet to be initiated.

Mourinho, who just guided Portuguese side Benfica to third place, while going the entire season unbeaten, will return to the Spanish Capital after 13 years since his first stint with the Los Blancos.

According to journalist Florian Plattenberg, the former Manchester United and Chelsea manager is expected to sign a two-year deal, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2028.

An official announcement is expected after Real’s final game of the season against Athletic Club on Sunday. Mourinho is then set to be unveiled in Madrid next week, taking over from interim head coach Alvaro Arbeloa.

The Special One finished the season with Benfica on Saturday, beating Estoril 3-1 to finish third in Liga Portugal in an unbeaten league campaign.

Los Blancos are likely to pay a compensation of €7 million to the Portuguese side for his release before his contract expiration, after leading Benfica to a third place finish in the top flight without a single lose.

Mourinho, whose contract includes the option for a further year, is set to be unveiled in Madrid next week, with other sources indicating that the clause is tied to the condition that the Portuguese tactician win the La Liga title.

The club is expected to confirm Mourinho’s deal by next week, as the league comes to its climax. A disappointing campaign for Madrid, filled with so much tension in the dressing room, and off-the-field discord in the team.

It’s only a matter of time for the confirmation announcement for the former Spurs manager to start work at the Santiago Bernabeu.
