Legon Cities assistant coach Saeed Adnan has insisted that Asante Kotoko were not the better team, despite their 2-0 victory over Legon Cities on matchday 23 of the Ghana Premier League.
The match was held on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium.
The league had been on a four-week hiatus following the tragic death of Francis Frimpong, also known as “Nana Pooley,” in Nsoatre during matchday 19.
In a post-match interview, Adnan argued that Kotoko’s goals were more a result of luck than an indication of superior performance on the field.
“If you see the two goals that we conceded, these were not chances, it’s not like Kotoko played better and they created chances and scored,” he said.
“There are goal scoring opportunities and there are goals that come without creating chances”
Legon Cities Battling Relegation
Legon Cities find themselves on the brink of relegation, sitting 17th in the league standings after a disappointing first half of the season.
The Royals have managed just 17 points from a possible 57, reflecting their struggles.
So far, they have recorded five wins and two draws, with their most notable victory coming in a 2-1 home win over Asante Kotoko on matchday 8.
However, their form away from home has been dismal, as they have yet to secure a single win on the road.
Their best away result this season remains a draw, while their recent defeat to Kotoko marked their seventh loss in 10 league matches.
Up next, Legon Cities will host Berekum Chelsea at the Legon Stadium on matchday 24 as they look to turn their season around.
