Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu blames GFA and Otto Addo for Black Stars’ AFCON 2025 failure

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu has blamed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Black Stars head coach Otto Addo for the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

For the first time in two decades, the four-time African champions will not compete in the continent’s most prestigious tournament.

After six games in the qualifiers, Ghana finished bottom of their group with just three points, having suffered three defeats and secured three draws.

In an interview, the U-20 FIFA World Cup winner pointed to the GFA and Otto Addo as key factors in the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the tournament, which will be held in Morocco later this year.

“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Otto Addo must all share the blame for failing to qualify Ghana for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON),” the former Udinese and Asante Kotoko midfielder told Sporty FM.

Ghana Gearing Up for  2026 World Cup Qualifiers Later This Month

Ghana coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers this week.

The Black Stars will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 17, before travelling to Morocco to take on Madagascar in the qualifying race for the global showpiece, which will be hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Ghana are currently in second place in Group I with nine points and are on track to secure a spot in next year’s World Cup, following a disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign.
