Michael Carrick in talks with United for the permananet role

Manchester United are reportedly set to open talks with interim manager Michael Carrick to upgrade his role to a permanent manager for next season, following his stellar job since assuming the role on January 13, after the sacking of Ruben Amorim, according to a report from Sky Sports.

The former United midfielder has been very impressive since assuming his role, having won 10 games, drawn three and lost only two in his last 15 games for the Red Devils.

In the process, the English manager has been lauded by the fans and ex-United players for the amazing job as interim manager, while effortlessly qualifying the club for next season’s Champions League.

Per the report, Carrick is not the only candidate on the list for the vacant permanent job at Old Trafford next season. However, formal discussions are expected to begin with him before United’s final game at Brighton on May 24.

The 44-year-old has long been viewed as the leading candidate for the position, with club chiefs impressed by the strong backing he enjoys within the dressing room, his composed approach in front of the media, and his deep appreciation of the club’s history and stature — as well as the impact he has delivered through results on the pitch.

His KPI for taking over the interim role is significantly over the top at the moment, delivering beyond expectations after guaranteed Champions League football for next season, and a potential £100 million boost to revenue as a result of that.

Despite Carrick’s growing status as the leading contender, the United hierarchy remains committed to conducting a thorough managerial search rather than simply handing him the role, and although discussions with senior figures at the club have remained ongoing, formal negotiations over a contract have yet to take place.

A breakthrough is expected in the coming days, with both parties confident that the remaining contractual formalities can be resolved smoothly and without major complications.
