Barcelona manager Hansi Flick reportedly lost his father hours before the German leads his side to one of the world’s most anticipated fixtures in football – the El Clásico, against arch rivals, Real Madrid.
Barca has released a statement confirming the devastating news regarding their German boss and his family.
Hansi Flick is reported to have informed both the Barcelona squad and club board on Sunday morning following the passing of his father in the early hours of the day.

However, despite the tragic news, he is still expected to be on the touchline to manage Barca against Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants go head-to-head at the Nou Camp, with Flick’s side on the brink of winning the La Liga title in their second consecutive season. They just have to avoid defeat to Real to claim the trophy.
Following the incident, the Catalan club has issued an official statement in support of their manager and his family.
The statement read: “FC Barcelona and the entire blaugrana family wish to send all our love to Hansi Flick after the passing of his father.
“We share in your sorrow and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.”
Barcelona beat their bitter rivals to the silverware last season, and they’re now looking set to go back-to-back on their unstabilized rivals, with Flick’s men 11 points clear at the top of the table with just three games to spare after El Clásico on Sunday.
The Blaugrana were expecting a day of celebration for Barca, as they near a remarkable 29th league title in Spain, but after the news just hours before kick-off, plenty of messages of support will be flooding in for Flick and his family.

Today’s rivals, Real Madrid have have also released a statement following the sad news regarding the Barcelona manager’s father.
They wrote: “Real Madrid CF, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the passing of the father of Hansi Flick, FC Barcelona coach.
“Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family and all his loved ones.
“Rest in peace.”
