MTN seals $2 Million deal to sponsor all four Ghana National teams

The deal aims to provide crucial financial and logistical support for all national teams.

MTN Ghana has signed a landmark two-year sponsorship agreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), becoming the headline sponsor for all four of the country’s national football teams the Black Stars, Black Queens, Black Satellites, and Black Starlets as well as the Elite Under-19 Championship.

The $2 million partnership, announced on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at the MTN House in Accra, will run until August 2027 and aims to provide crucial financial and logistical support to aid the teams’ development, training, and preparations for upcoming competitions.

MTN Ghana Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett described the deal as “more than a sponsorship,” calling it a commitment to national pride, youth empowerment, gender inclusion, and building a sustainable future for football in Ghana. “By embracing all national teams, male and female, junior and senior, we affirm that every Ghanaian player deserves the opportunity to shine,” he said.

The telecom giant’s involvement in Ghanaian football spans more than a decade, most notably as headline sponsor of the MTN FA Cup since the 2010–11 season. Blewett noted how the tournament has grown into one of the country’s most competitive competitions and recalled MTN’s role in mobilising fans for historic moments, including Ghana’s first FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006 and various Africa Cup of Nations campaigns.

“With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, we want to see Ghana win the World Cup,” Blewett declared. “Through our renewed partnership with the GFA, we are determined to give our national teams every possible advantage — the resources, preparation, exposure, and unwavering support needed to go all the way.”

GFA President Kurt Okraku hailed the agreement as a “timely boost” that will strengthen the competitiveness of the national sides. The Black Queens are targeting success at the next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, while the Black Stars are focused on securing a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
