The appointment forms part of Kotoko’s long-term strategy to strengthen its technical leadership, modernize football operations, and restore the club’s status as a dominant force in both domestic and continental football.

Menzo, 62, arrives in Kumasi with an impressive football résumé. The former Dutch international goalkeeper spent a decade with AFC Ajax, making more than 300 appearances and winning nine major trophies.

Widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern ball-playing goalkeeper role, he also represented clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Lierse SK and FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

On the international stage, Menzo represented the Netherlands national football team, featuring at the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship. He was also part of the Ajax side that won the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987 and the UEFA Cup in 1992.

Beyond his playing career, Menzo has built extensive coaching and management experience across Europe, Africa, Asia and the Caribbean.

His managerial journey has included spells with FC Volendam, SC Cambuur, Lierse, Ajax Cape Town, Beijing Guoan, and the national teams of Aruba and Suriname.

He most recently led Suriname during their World Cup qualification campaign and previously served as goalkeeping coach of the Netherlands national team under Marco van Basten.

In his new role, Menzo will oversee the club’s football operations, including technical strategy, player recruitment and retention, youth development, and the alignment of the academy and senior teams under a unified football philosophy.

He will also supervise all technical matters until the appointment of a substantive head coach for the senior team.

Executive Chairman James Osei Brown described the appointment as a major step forward for the club.

“Stanley Menzo brings a rare combination of elite playing experience, proven leadership and a genuine global perspective. His football philosophy aligns with the standards and ambitions of this great institution, and we are confident that his expertise will help us build a sustainable, winning structure that our supporters can be proud of,” he said.

Speaking after his appointment, Menzo expressed his excitement about joining the Porcupine Warriors.

“It is an honour to join a club of the stature and history of Asante Kotoko. The passion of the supporters and the ambition of the leadership made this an easy decision. I look forward to working with the technical team, the players and the entire Kotoko family to build something special and compete for the trophies this club deserves,” he said.

The club says further details regarding its technical structure and plans for the upcoming season will be announced in due course.
