Bechem United dent Kotoko’s top-four hopes with convincing win

Augustine Okrah is on the verge of winning his second Golden Boot after scoring a brace against Asante Kotoko.

Bechem United dealt a major blow to Asante Kotoko’s top-four hopes with an emphatic 3-1 victory at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

A brace from Augustine Okrah and a goal from Richard Dwamena secured all three points for the Hunters in an impressive home performance.

Bechem United started the game brightly and dominated possession in the opening stages as Kotoko struggled to settle into the contract.

Their pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Richard Dwamena opened the scoring with a fine finish.

Just three minutes later, Augustine Okrah doubled the advantage with a beautifully curled effort to put the hosts firmly in control.

Okrah grabbed his second goal of the afternoon in the 37th minute with a composed finish to make it 3-0 before halftime.

Bechem United continued to dominate and created several opportunities but were unable to extend their lead further before the break.

Kotoko improved significantly in the second half and began to control possession in search of a comeback.

Their efforts were rewarded in the 66th minute when Patrick Asiedu pulled one back to give the Porcupine Warriors a glimmer of hope.

Despite pushing for another goal, Kotoko could not break down Bechem’s defence again, while Okrah came close to completing his hat-trick but was denied by goalkeeper Aziz Dari.

Bechem United held on comfortably to secure a deserved 3-1 victory.

The defeat leaves Kotoko eighth on the league table with one game remaining, while Bechem United move up to ninth place.

Kotoko will host relegation-threatened Swedru All Blacks on the final day, while Bechem United travel to face Bibiani Gold Stars.

Augustine Okrah has now taken his goal tally to 15 and is on course to win another Ghana Premier League top scorer award.
