Manchester United were looking to strengthen their midfield with Ederson
Man United call OFF deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson

Manchester United have reportedly called off their pursuit of Atalanta midfielder Ederson, following the Italian club’s decision to recall the Brazilian back into the squad for the new season, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Friday.
Per the reports, Atalanta’s stance on selling the midfielder has changed, with their renewed trust in the player and exceptional fitness levels, and they are ready to welcome him back into the first team.
The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their midfield with the pursuit of the 27-year-old midfielder, following the departure of fellow countryman Casemiro, who has already announced his exit from Old Trafford in the just-ended Premier League season.
The midfielder was in line for a transfer worth £38.5 million after personal terms were agreed with United for a five-year contract until 2031, but has reportedly failed his medicals, leading to the termination of all agreements among all parties involved in the deal.
Leading to the termination of this agreement, United had legitimate concerns about the player’s fitness, as confirmation from the Manchester club now reveals that Ederson has suffered a meniscus injury, and the Carrington club has chosen to end all negotiations after accurate medical tests were conducted.
The Red Devils swooped in and agreed a deal for the Brazil international after a transfer to Atletico Madrid fell through last month. Ederson and the LaLiga giants had terms in place, but Atleti were unable to agree a deal with Atalanta.

This allowed Man Utd to finally formalise their interest in a player they had been following closely since at least 2024. Personal terms were, once again, not an issue, nor was striking a deal with Atalanta.
Meanwhile, on Friday, United finalised the signing of Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Karl Darlow (free agent, previously at Leeds) at Carrington.
