Eric Dier to leave Bayern at end of season; set to join Champions League club

Dier initially joined Bayern on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024

Eric Dier will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the season when his contract expires, the club’s sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed on Friday.

The 31-year-old initially joined Bayern on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in January 2024, following a decade-long spell with the Premier League club.

He made the move permanent during the 2024 summer transfer window, signing a contract that runs until June 2025.

However, Dier has now decided not to extend his stay beyond the current campaign.

Dier has made 45 appearances for Bayern Munich and scored twice

“We had discussions with Eric about a new contract,” sporting director Christoph Freund said.

“He told us that he doesn’t want to extend and will leave us.

“He’s a great guy. We had a great time together. Hopefully he crowns his time with us with his first title.”

Sky Sports has reported that Eric Dier has agreed to a three-year deal with AS Monaco and is set to join the Ligue 1 side in July.

Dier, who has made 45 appearances for Bayern Munich and scored twice, is now on the verge of securing the first major trophy of his career.

Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich side currently hold an eight-point lead over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen with just three games remaining.

A win over fifth-placed RB Leipzig on Saturday would see them clinch a record-extending 34th German league title.

Dier, who has earned 49 caps for England, finished as a runner-up with Tottenham Hotspur in the 2015 and 2021 Carabao Cup finals, as well as in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.
